Jabil opens intelligent logistics hub in Penang
Jabil’s new Penang hub combines automated storage, robotics and digital inventory systems for electronics supply chains.

Intelligent logistics in Penang
Jabil has opened its Intelligent Logistics Hub at Valdor Industrial Park in Penang, Malaysia. The approximately 417,000-square-foot facility supports electronics and advanced manufacturing supply chains. PROTT Sdn Bhd, a subsidiary of PTT Synergy Group Bhd, developed the hub, which adds automated logistics infrastructure to the state’s electrical and electronics industry.
Entrepreneur and Cooperatives Development Minister Steven Sim Chee Keong and Penang state executive councillor Goh Choon Aik officiated at the opening ceremony. Sim said manufacturers needed contingency capacity alongside just-in-time operations. Jabil senior vice-president of operations HH Yeo identified supply-chain volatility, higher logistics costs and inventory visibility as challenges behind the investment.

Automation and material handling
The hub accommodates approximately 52,300 pallet positions. Its automated storage and retrieval system combines high-bay stacker cranes with climate-controlled areas for sensitive, high-value materials such as semiconductors and advanced electronic components. An integrated fleet of around 160 automation units includes mobile robots, forklift robots, sky transfer units, robotic arms and automated scanning systems.
The Jabil facility uses a digital-twin platform incorporating artificial intelligence and Internet of Things technologies. Its stated functions include operational visibility, preventive maintenance, energy optimisation and inventory traceability. Design and construction followed FM Global standards. A rooftop photovoltaic installation is scheduled for September 2026, supporting a target of GreenRE Bronze certification.

Jabil’s Malaysian network
Jabil opened its first Penang location in 1995. At the hub’s announcement, the company employed more than 14,000 people across eight Malaysian facilities, serving customers in automotive, cloud infrastructure, healthcare, aerospace and semiconductor capital equipment.
Material-flow capabilities extend from incoming goods to production-line delivery. The facility supports:
- Kitting, sequencing and inventory management.
- Automated storage, retrieval and traceability.
- Packing, cross-docking and just-in-time deliveries.
