Owens Corning selects Prattville for planned shingle plant
Owens Corning selects Prattville for a planned shingle plant, with production targeted for 2027 and support for site improvements and workforce development.

New roofing capacity in Alabama
TOLEDO, Ohio — Owens Corning has selected Prattville, Alabama, for a planned 250,000-square-foot shingle plant. Construction is expected to start in early 2026, with production beginning in 2027. The project is expected to create nearly 100 skilled manufacturing jobs and use advanced automation.
A four-wide laminator is designed to produce around six million squares of laminate shingles annually, including the Duration series with SureNail technology. After completion, the Roofing business expects to operate 17 asphalt roofing and components plants across the United States. Total project investment has not been disclosed.

Capacity programme and site support
Owens Corning first announced the southeastern plant on Feb 11, 2025, before identifying Prattville on Sep 19. Its earlier shingle-capacity investments included process improvements, automation and a convertible line adding laminate capability at Medina, Ohio. In February, that line was expected online around mid-year. Together, the earlier investments were expected to unlock capacity similar to the new southeastern plant’s planned volume.
Alabama’s support package includes a $4.9 million Growing Alabama investment for improvements at the site in Prattville’s South Industrial Park, Autauga County. AIDT, the state’s primary workforce development agency, will provide services valued at $885,000. State and local economic development officials worked with the company on the project. The two support measures cover different purposes:
- Growing Alabama: improvements at the industrial-park site.
- AIDT: workforce development services.
Roofing business context
For the quarter ended Jun 30, 2025, the Roofing segment recorded net sales of $1.303 billion, compared with $1.252 billion a year earlier. Segment EBITDA, a non-GAAP measure, was $457 million, up from $437 million. Its reported EBITDA margin was 35% in both periods. These are segment results, separate from the capacity targets for the planned Alabama facility.
In its Aug 6, 2025 outlook, Owens Corning expected third-quarter demand for non-discretionary roofing repair to decline because of lower storm activity than a year earlier, while demand for its own products was expected to outpace the market. Residential new construction and remodelling were also expected to remain challenged. Those statements were company forecasts for the third quarter.
