Rostec presents UEC’s 32 MW NK-36ST-32 industrial engine
The NK-36ST-32 prototype reached 32 MW during factory tests and was presented at the St. Petersburg International Gas Forum.

ST. PETERSBURG, Oct 7, 2025 — Rostec presented United Engine Corporation's NK-36ST-32 industrial engine prototype at the 14th St. Petersburg International Gas Forum. Developed by UEC-Kuznetsov in Samara, the 32 MW engine is intended for gas transportation through main pipelines. It uses the serially produced 25 MW NK-36ST-25 as its base. UEC first showed the prototype in Samara in September 2025.
The prototype reached its rated 32 MW during the first stage of factory tests in September 2025. Rostec reported 38% efficiency, a designated service life of 120,000 hours and a low-emission combustion chamber. A modification for southern regions remained under development, with operation intended at temperatures above 40 degrees Celsius and in high mountains.
Component manufacturing in Samara
UEC-Kuznetsov commissioned a new production building for gas turbine engine components in Samara, which Rostec announced on Mar 10, 2025. The building accommodated a full component manufacturing cycle, from blanks to finished assemblies. Its equipment produced turbine wheels and nozzle assemblies for industrial and aviation power units. The workshop's capacity also supported component manufacturing for the developing 32 MW NK-36ST engine used in gas pumping applications.
The production and inspection areas included milling and turning machining centres, profile grinding and surface grinding machines, robotic welding systems, automated coordinate measuring machines and inspection equipment. These facilities covered machining, joining and dimensional checks within the new building. Rostec associated the expansion with its programme to increase industrial engine manufacturing capacity and supply domestic equipment for gas transportation infrastructure.

Earlier additive manufacturing work
By Feb 8, 2024, UEC-Kuznetsov had introduced additive manufacturing for parts of the NK-36ST industrial engine's low-emission combustion chamber. The components had passed testing and entered serial component production. Rostec reported a 15% reduction in their manufacturing time compared with traditional methods, material utilisation above 70% and a rejection rate no higher than 5%. These figures concerned the earlier component manufacturing project.
The work included the use of domestic powder alloys, including nickel- and titanium-based materials. The project was carried out jointly with Samara University and combined production methods with a system for design and technological preparation. Its manufacturing and verification activities included:
- direct and selective laser additive manufacturing;
- production of low-emission combustion chamber components;
- bench testing of components within an experimental NK-36ST engine.
